We offer a comprehensive range of building services that includes architectural design, project management, and all on-site building at your Auckland home. If you don’t have an architect, there is a 12-step process we follow.

1. First Contact

We’ll respond to your first contact about building services within 1 working day. We like to have an informal chat to find out if we can provide the services you require. From there we’ll book a no-obligation meeting for projects unders 70k (usually at your place) or set up payment for your meeting over 70k then book your meeting at a time convenient to you. 

You will receive a detailed meeting explaining what we will bring, how we operate and the process from here.


2. Meet Ben

Your first meeting will be with Ben, Craft Construction’s Founder, Director, and Project Manager. Ben will inspect your home and will discuss your dreams, vision, ideas, timescales, and budget. He’ll also listen to your concerns as well as any challenges that exist, and he will answer all your questions. We’ll also use our experience and problem-solving skills to develop a solution that meets your requirements.

At this meeting Ben will also bring along any trades who will need to carry out work. This service is free.


3. Complimentary Services

As client service is Important to us. Rhiannon will introduce our complimentary services before your project is in the draft phase. You will have access to free consultations with our trusted interior designer, paint consultant, and kitchen/bathroom designer. The advice you receive will help to transform your vision into reality. This will also give you more of an idea of what your scope will look like, and what you are able to add to the budget. We want to ensure your project is kept within budget so this helps us with those added touches.

4. Concept Design

As you don’t yet have an architect, we’ll introduce you to one of ours. Every architect on our team has extensive experience of luxury new build and renovation projects in Auckland. The architect will create initial drawings and 3D models to help you understand what your home will look like once complete. This is a particularly important stage, especially on new build and major renovation projects. We also ensure we are involved in this stage as our experience can help make sure the scope of works fits into your budget. We are an eco – friendly company so our architects will specify natural materials to accommodate your surroundings but also the environment.

Once we have concept drawings from the architect, we’ll provide an initial cost estimate for the project. It’s important to understand this is an estimation, so is not the final price and is not a fixed price. The estimation gives you an idea of costs before creating construction drawings and getting building consents. It’s important to the success of the project to progress in this order. If the budget doesn’t cover the scope of the project, we can make adjustments before proceeding further.


6. Working Drawings

When you sign off on the concept drawings and cost estimate, our architect will create the working drawings. These drawings are detailed and what is  used for the builders to create your project. We need to make sure you are happy with this s changes made now is much easier done than after council consent. We’ll then help you submit these drawings to Auckland Council for consent approval. We’ll also submit the drawings to our engineer if required. We like to make sure you are aware of what is happening, so any email or correspondence that takes place, we ensure you are part of that.


7. The Quote

With working drawings, a specification document, and council consent, we can give you a detailed quote. This should closely match the cost estimate you received earlier in the process. Any changes that is made to satisfy council, we will all work on together so that – we, you and architect is happy to proceed. Another meeting will then be scheduled to explain the quote in detail and answer any questions you may have.


8. The Contract

Once you are happy with the final quote, we will prepare a tailored certified builder’s contract specific for your project. The contract will include working drawings and specifications, a project schedule with a start and end date, details of your 10-year Halo Guarantee, our own Craft Construction Guarantee, and the necessary account accesses for our suppliers.


9. Porject Management

Once we establish a starting date, we will create your building schedule. We’ll also activate your buildxtrac account and provide you with training. Buildxtrac lets you follow the project, budget, and trades. Ben will be your project manager and will organise your scope of works from start to finish; we will take care of everything. A foreman will control day to day operations on-site from arranging equipment to ensuring tradespeople are where they need to be, when they need to be. We control all services that are part of the project too, plus we ensure good health and safety practice to minimize risk. 

We will then send you some client tips to a success build as we have seen what happens when certain situations arise and we want to ensure you trust and maintain your trust with us. For renovations, there will be snags along the way, and often the clients are not prepared for that. Our builders are expertise, so we do not want clients taking it upon themselves to try and manage the build.


10. Quality Control

We have a 287-point checklist to ensure the quality of our work is to the highest standard achievable. During renovation or new build projects in Auckland, we go through the checklist daily. As part of this process, the foreman or project manager checks off each point. You will be given these at the end of the week and you will get to examine the work along the way. At our weekly meeting, you will be given a sign off sheet which gives you the opportunity to look through our work with a fine tooth comb. We do this to allow for peace of mind and so you know where your money is going.


11. Site Meetings

At Craft Construction, we believe good communication is crucial to a successful build. Your project manager and foreman will meet with you on a weekly basis to answer any questions, update you on the schedule, and deliver important site notes / comments. At this meeting you will be given a “feedback” form and a “Weekly sign off workmanship” form. This enables you to give your feedback on the builders – manners, respect, tidiness and productivity. You can confidentially tell us how you are feeling and we will adhere to it accordingly. The weekly sign off gives you the opportunity to look at our workmanship and sign it off or make a snag list for the builders to remedy. This means that you can be satisfied along the way and we then aren’t pulling out walls weeks later.


12. The Handover

At the end of the project, Ben will meet with you to discuss any specifics you need to know. This includes guarantees and warranties as well as any extra details you will require. You will also be given your file which will include all the information you need such as CCC, certification documents, and valuable reference photos for plumbing, drainage, electrical, etc.
